Psychiatric Evaluation

Psychotherapy

A psychiatric evaluation is the first step in understanding your mental health needs. During this appointment, we will discuss your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, social history, lifestyle factors, and treatment goals. This thorough assessment allows me to develop an accurate diagnosis and recommend an individualized treatment plan that may include a combination of psychiatric medication with therapeutic modalities.

Medication can be a valuable tool in managing mental health conditions, but it is always considered as part of a broader, individualized treatment plan. During medication management visits, we review symptoms, discuss how medications are working, monitor for side effects, and make adjustments when needed. Medication is never pushed, and treatment decisions are made collaboratively with your preferences and goals in mind. When appropriate, we can also explore non-medication approaches, including lifestyle strategies and supplements.

Psychotherapy provides a supportive space to explore thoughts, emotions, and life experiences that may be impacting your mental health. During these visits, we often focus on developing practical coping skills, improving emotional regulation, strengthening relationships, and navigating life transitions. These conversations are typically brief and often complement your medication management appointments. While I don’t provide formal therapy modalities, many of my patients find it beneficial to work with a licensed therapist alongside my services for more well-rounded support.

What conditions do you treat?

I work with patients experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including but not limited to the following: ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), anxiety disorders, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression and other mood disorders, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), personality disorders, insomnia and sleep-related concerns, as well as postpartum mood concerns. If you are unsure whether your symptoms fall within these areas, please feel free to reach out to determine whether my services may be a good fit for you.

What insurances do you accept?

For your convenience we accept most major insurance plans, including BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, United, Magellan, Optum, and Superior Medicaid. This list is not entirely inclusive of all the plans we accept. For specific insurance plan inquiries, please contact the office.

If your insurance is not accepted, self-pay options are available.

What can I expect during an appointment?

Your first appointment is typically a psychiatric evaluation, which gives me time to get to know you and better understand what you’re experiencing. During this visit, we’ll talk about your current concerns, mental health history, medical background, medications, lifestyle factors, and what you hope to gain from treatment. Together, we’ll review possible treatment options and create a plan that feels comfortable and appropriate for your needs.

Follow-up visits are generally shorter and focus on how you’re doing, reviewing symptoms, and adjusting your treatment plan if needed. These appointments often include medication management and brief supportive discussions about coping skills, stress management, and lifestyle factors that support your overall well-being.
